The Big Mac’s greatest commercial jingle of all time
The Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions – on a sesame seed bun…
Is it a recipe?
This is one of the most memorable concept for a jingle.
It s was created by Keith Reinhard, Chairman Emeritus of DDB Worldwide, and his creative group at Needham Harper and Steers, after that McDonalds went to them saying,
“We want to list the ingredients for this sandwich and make it catchy!”
Well they did.
In 1974, the words were set to music created by Mark Vieha, who wrote and performed the original ad jingle.
The first run of commercial ran only a year and a half, going off the air in 1976, but its popularity remained beyond its TV life, making it one of the omnipresent jingles in American culture.
Mr. Reinhard told that, one night in his office, the team scrawled the ingredients on an easel. His partner, Dan Nichols,
“had his guitar with him at all times,” Mr. Reinhard said. “And I suggested, because music is a great mnemonic, I said, remember how we told our kids to learn the ABCs with sort of a dumb tuneless chant?”
“And Dan Nichols — this is my very clear recollection — he’s looking at the easel and he plays on his guitar: ‘Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame-seed bun.’ And that was it. The rest was history.”
