R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe debuts an audio-visual installation at MoogFest

Five years after R.E.M.’s breakup, the former band’s frontman has announced his comeback to the music world.
He will be one of the guest artists at the upcoming 11th edition of North Carolina festival MoogFest.

MoogFest is a four-day festival started as a tribute to synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog.
This edition takes place from May 18th through May 21st in Durham and involves artists such as Animal Collective, Flying Lotus, Stranger Things composers SURVIVE, and Jessy Lanza.
What about Michael Stipe?
The alt-rock icon will debut a “never-before-seen” multimedia installation.
It is described as “an exploration of desire and movement” that will feature a never-before-heard instrumental score along with video footage shot by Stipe in New York City over the years.
According to a press release, the soundtrack will be the “first solo composition ever” from the R.E.M.frontman, a “rare solo composition” created by Stipe himself exclusively using Moog instruments.
The audio-visual installation will run throughout the entire duration of the festival.
