3 November 2013, the first ever YouTube Music Awards took place in New York City.

Commonly abbreviated as YTMA, the awards show by YouTube aims to honor the best in the music video medium.

The YouTube Music Awards was directed by Spike Jonze, who said to Billboard.com

"None of us have done anything live before or an awards show – in a way we're all like amateurs on YouTube ourselves, making our first video. So even if it's messy, it'll be live".

Unlike other award shows, the winners were entirely voted on by fans.

Eminem won Artist of the Year, while Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' took the YouTube Phenomenon award.

Among the songs that generated the most fan videos, there was also 'Gangnam Style',

the K-pop single by the South Korean musician Psy.

Do you remember it?

In September 2012, 'Gangnam Style' was recognized by Guinness World Records as the most "liked" video on YouTube.
