27 ottobre 2005, la battaglia tra Jay Z e Nas termina
Dopo dissing e guerre di vendite dischi, pace fu fatta
È stato uno dei più famosi scontri nella storia dell'hip-hop. Per quasi un decennio questa battaglia a suon di rap ha tenuto tutti noi con il fiato sospeso.
Poi la battle si è conclusa in trionfo quando Nas è inaspettatamente apparso durante il concerto di Jay Z, ironicamente intitolato "I Declare War".
Tutto è iniziato con "The City Is Mine" (album "In My Lifetime, Vol. 1” 1997), quando Jay Z ha reclamato il trono vacante lasciato da B.I.G.
Dopo alcune rime, scintille, botta e risposta, nel 2001 Jay Z ha registrato "Takeover" (The Blueprint album). Il brano è un chiaro dissing indirizzato ai rapper Nas e Prodigy di Mobb Deep.
Qui è tutta una questione di vendite album:
“No, you’re not on my level, get your brakes tweaked I sold what your whole album sold in my first week! You guys don’t want it with Hov Ask Nas, he don’t want it with Hov, nooooo!”
“Takeover” porta a “Ether” (Stillmatic Album 2001), un flusso di insulti da Nas a Jay Z:
“When these streets keep calling, heard it when I was sleep That this Gay-Z and Cock-A-Fella Records wanted beef Started cocking up my weapon, slowly loading up this ammo To explode it on a camel, and his soldiers, I can handle This for dolo and it’s manuscript, just sound stupid When KRS already made an album called Blueprint First, Biggie’s your man, then you got the nerve to say that you better than Big Dick sucking lips, why not you let the late, great veteran live?!”
Per fortuna, una delle più grandi battaglie hip-hop, dopo B.I.G. vs Tupac, si è conclusa in pace 11 anni fa.
