On April 16 let’s celebrate Record Store Day with 300 special releases and much more

As in the tradition, the annual Record Store Day will delight our third Saturday of April. A day conceived in 2007 in America in support of independent record stores. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008, today there are thousands of stores that join the initiative with previews, reprints, special editions, events and performances.

Metallica are the Ambassadors of this ninth edition. They have a long lasting realtionship with Record Store Day, in fact, for the first year the band decided to celebrate it by meeting its fans in Rasputin Music in San Francisco. while this year they are issuing Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Metallica!, a CD of their 2003 Bataclan performance to raise money for charity.

“Independent record stores are part of Metallica’s DNA” said drummer Lars Ulrich. “They have been pivotal in shaping each one of us into the music fanatics we’ve all become. We could not be any prouder to be Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2016 and are looking forward to screaming from every rooftop the next few months about everything independent record store and beyond.”

There are a lot of interesting exclusive releases. A trio of vinyl Bowie releases: a picture disc of the late singer’s 1970 album The Man Who Sold the World, featuring rare artwork from the German release; a picture-disc seven-inch of TVC15, with the single edit on the A side backed with Harry Maslen’s mix of “Wild Is the Wind”; the 12-inch EP I Dig Everything, containing six songs Bowie recorded in 1966. Bob Dylan‘s exclusive is a 7-inch EP titled Melancholy Mood that was previously available only in Japan.

Other notable releases include the reboot of rare albums or memorable performances of many important artists, for example Madonna, Frank Zappa, Doors, Patti Smith.

Moreover, other musicians have wholly new records planned for the day. Many Italian artists will celebrate Record Store Day as well, you can find more details on the Italian website.
